Although a temporary cap continues to block the flow of oil from BP’s damaged well at the bottom of the Gulf, a second, and unrelated, well continues to spew a mixture of oil and natural gas into Louisiana’s Barataria Bay.

Engineers say it may take more than a week before they can cap the well, which was damaged by a tugboat towing a barge early Tuesday morning.

In the meantime, skimmers are recovering oil from the scene and crews have deployed containment boom to protect nearby marshes.
