Super Sophisticated Virus Targets Nuclear Facilities

Earlier on Happening Now, Jon Scott informed us of a new super weapon that could be targeting energy infrastructures across the world. The weapon is a digital worm, a virus, that was discovered in the software of an Iranian power plant and is capable of shutting down crucial processes . Even scarier, some security experts think this sophisticated hack was developed by a nation state and actually implemented in the Iranian plants.

One of those concerned security experts, Hemanshu Nigam, joined Jon Scott to say the United States should be taking this very seriously.

Nigam believes this attack proves that a sophisticated virus of this nature has the ability to infect other power plants in the world, including the United States. It could wreak havoc across our energy grid, shutting down power to millions of American citizens.

Evidence suggests that the virus found in Iran was written by a government, mainly because the virus targets systems in the plant that if shut down, would result in little to no casualties. He also explained that such a detail would only be of concern for a nation state, and not a group of hackers.

So, could this be the beginning of a new age of digital warfare?
