Newt Gingrich has previously proposed a plan to subpoena judges to testify before Congress about controversial decisions that they make, a plan which former attorneys general have criticized, saying it alters the checks and balances of the three branches of government.

Gingrich stands by his plan, saying that the courts have become far too powerful and “arrogant in their misreading of the American people.”
