Gingrich: The Next 10 Days Are the Most Important in Modern Politics

After a disappointing finish in yesterday’s primary, Newt Gingrich had some harsh words for Mitt Romney. “This is a campaign to take on the establishment in both parties … I will insist on the truth. I want a free enterprise system that is honest,” Gingrich said in his speech this morning in Rock Hill, S.C.

Gingrich campaign advisor Kellyanne Conway stopped by America’s Newsroom to break down his message. “What he’s trying to put forth is there are the economic contrasts between him and Barack Obama, but really between him and Governor Romney,” she said.

Bill Hemmer asked Conway about Mitt Romney’s comments from last night, specifically referring to Romney’s mentioning of “desperate Republicans trying to divide us.” So what of Gingrich’s attacks on Romney and Bain Capital? Conway insists that the attacks are coming from Rick Perry and Jon Huntsman, not Gingrich. “It’s Governor Perry who referred to vulture capitalism; we didn’t.”

Gingrich is hoping for a rebound and sees South Carolina as a must win. In his speech today Gingrich rallied voters, stating, “I believe the next 10 days are as important as any 10 days we have seen in modern American politics. I believe that South Carolinians are either going to center in and pick one conservative, or by default, we’re going to send a moderate on to the nomination.”
