Sister Victims in “Honor Killings” Reportedly Told School Officials They Lived in ‘Abusive Household’; Trial Could Soon Go to Jury

We’re learning today that a jury is about to decide the fate of three people accused of killing off half their family. Three of the four victims were sisters, and the prosecution is accusing their father, mother and brother of the heinous crimes, calling them honor killings because the alleged perpetrators believed the teens became too Westernized after moving from Afghanistan.

The trial in question has been going on for three months now, with the father – Mohammad Shafia – testifying that he does indeed believe that his daughters dishonored him, but that he’s not responsible for their deaths. In a statement, he said:

“God’s curse on them … May the devil s*** on their graves. Even if they come back to life a hundred times, if I have a cleaver in my hand. I will cut [them] in pieces.”

Recent revelations also indicate that two of the young girls told their schools they were living in abusive households in the months leading up to their deaths; the 17-year-old sibling tried to commit suicide after telling her school she wanted out of the house. Still, there was no intervention, with school officials instead telling her and her sisters to try to get along with the family.

Prosecutors allege that the three daughters and the fourth victim – the father’s secret, polygamist wife – were drowned before they were put inside a car that was then pushed into a canal by the family’s Lexus.

Get details on this horrible story, and tell us why you think the school didn’t do anything about the girls’ claims:
