Attempted Attack on Afghan Airport as Leon Panetta's Plane Was Landing
Shepard Smith reports that according to a military source, Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta is believed to have been the target of an attack in Afghanistan. The attempted attack occurred as Panetta’s plane was landing at Camp Bastion, and involved a man in a stolen vehicle racing toward his plane with gasoline and a lighter.
Jennifer Griffin provided further details saying that the alleged Afghan attacker was an interpreter. He had a gasoline tank in the front seat of his vehicle, and when his truck crashed in a ditch, he got out and lit himself on fire.
The incident was originally reported to be an attempted vehicle theft, but was clearly much more than that.
Pentagon officials say that Panetta was never in any danger.
