Soldiers Who Knew Sgt. Dennis Weichel 'Not Surprised' He Gave His Life to Save Afghan Child
A few days ago we told you about Sergeant Dennis Weichel, the U.S. soldier who gave his life to safe an Afghan girl. Today on Fox and Friends, fellow soldiers spoke out about the man behind the uniform who gave the ultimate sacrifice while serving overseas.
In an emotional interview, Major William Tuttle said of Sgt. Weichel, “He was a Rhode Island Guardsman. He was so much more than that, he was a son, he was a brother, he was a father, and when you intertwine his life experiences towards that of his beliefs and the core army values, you know the outcome was a heroic act.”
While serving in Iraq, Major Tuttle spoke of how Sgt. Weichel would take materials received in care packages
and set them aside to give to Iraqi children in need.
Command Sergeant Major Joseph Klosterman said when he first heard the news, he wasn’t surprised at all. “I can see Dennis picturing that girl going under that MRAP and Dennis jumping out to save the girl. Having children of your own puts the value of children’s lives right there in the forefront,” he said.
