Bill Marriott Weighs In on Jobs, the Economy and Mitt Romney
Marriott's former CEO and current executive chairman of Bill Marriott gave an exclusive interview to Neil Cavuto today and weighed in on the current job market. Despite the downtrodden hiring trend, he said, “We’re seeing good results in our hotels … We’re seeing business come back. Our transient business is good, our group business is good. We’ll open 15,000 rooms in the United States this year and we’ll hire five to 10 thousand people.”
Cavuto asked why many other companies like Alcoa and Apple are holding onto their cash instead of hiring. Marriott answered, “I think they’re waiting for something to happen in Washington. I think they’re concerned about regulation … I think they’re just waiting to see what’s going to happen to ObamaCare and all of the uncertainty out there is why they’re holding onto all this cash.”
Being a Mormon himself
, Marriott weighed in on the presidential race, “I don’t think the Mormon thing is a big issue right now. I think the issue is the economy and the jobs … Mitt Romney is a fabulous businessman. He’s been on our board for 10 years or more and got off, of course, it twice -- once to run the Olympics and then another time now to run for president.”
