Facebook Gets Overwhelming Response to Organ Donor Initiative
Facebook is helping people give the gift of life by pushing organ donations and it has gotten an enormously positive response from others. The social media site has now made it possible to include donor information in your profile. In addition, the site is also providing links to the registries and sites for others to learn more about the growing shortage of donors.
Since the new initiative, 10 different states around the country are saying they have received as many volunteers yesterday as they normally get in one month.
In California, there was a 700 percent jump in the number of new donors compared to a typical day.
In discussing the growing shortage of donors, Rick Folbaum reports that 18 people die every day and about 7,000 people a year wait for donor organs.
