Grapevine: Senate Candidate's Native American Heritage in Question; Teacher Apologizes to Parents Over Yearbook Pledge
Democratic Massachusetts Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren’s claim that she is 1/32 Native American is in question. The Boston Globe issued a correction today stating that neither the paper nor a prominent genealogical society has seen the 1894 marriage license that is purported to list Warren’s great great great grandmother as a Cherokee.
Warren has acknowledged listing herself as a minority in some instances in the past and Politico reported that a 1997 Fordham Law Review piece which describes her as Harvard Law School’s “first woman of color.”
Warren’s campaign responded that the story is old and that she is proud of her Native American heritage.
