New Evidence in Trayvon Martin Case: Florida Doctor Says George Zimmerman Had Several Injuries
There are new developments in the Trayvon Martin case after ABC reported that a doctor who examined George Zimmerman after his confrontation with Martin said that Zimmerman had a closed fracture of his nose, black eyes, two lacerations to the back of his head and a minor back injury. Zimmerman has since been charged with second degree murder since he shot and killed Martin on February 26th.
The Martin family attorney Benjamin Crump appeared on The O’Reilly Factor tonight. He told Bill O’Reilly, “You were right, you said last time we were on the show that in America if somebody kills an unarmed teenager they will at least be arrested."
Crump continued, “I think this new doctor’s report, it needs to be vetted properly.
I think you’re absolutely right when you say it should be tried in the court of law and all the evidence should be vetted completely. What this report, the thing that is real suspicious is if he was so hurt why didn’t the ER personnel take him to the hospital that night? That’s the questions that the family of Trayvon Martin has.”
O’Reilly agreed that all those questions have to be addressed in the court of law. He also mentioned that in addition to this report, Martin’s autopsy showed that he had scrapes on his knuckles. With all this evidence pointing to a confrontation, O’Reilly said this makes a second degree murder charge harder to prove unless there’s an eye witness.
Crump responded, “George Zimmerman for whatever reason made a decision to get out of his car on a rainy night and profile and pursue and confront Trayvon Martin.”
O’Reilly interjected to point out that Zimmerman was a neighborhood watch, but Crump said, “Neighborhood watches, you’re supposed to watch … Why do you get out of your car if you’re in fear for your life? You could just drive away and wait for the police to come.”
The case is made more complicated by Florida’s Stand Your Ground law, but Crump said all this new evidence needs to be taken into full context. He said Martin’s parents only want Zimmerman to have a fair trial and face the justice system.
