Audio: 911 Dispatcher Caught Sleeping During Emergency Call
Imagine you're in dire need of emergency assistance, and instead of getting help when you dial 911, you hear silence on the other end of the line. That's what happened to one woman when she phoned the hotline after discovering her husband was having trouble breathing. She caught the dispatcher blatantly sleeping, snoring into the phone. Thank goodness there was a secondary dispatcher also on the call, keeping track.
The woman's husband was eventually transported to a local hospital and will be okay. The dispatcher in question was placed on administrative leave with pay, and apparently he was 17 hours into a 24-hour overtime shift.
