UPDATE: Quadruple Amputee Staff Sgt. Travis Mills Recovering From IED Blast in Afghanistan in US, Describes How Much He Misses His Teammates

Staff Sgt. Travis Mills lost four of his limbs in April during an IED blast in Afghanistan while on his third tour of duty. Since his arrival back to the states, there have been many ups and downs for Mills, but he’s made a lot of progress. While Mills has been out and about with his family, he’s also been at the gym preparing for prosthetic limbs.

Travis Mills discussed his progress with Jenna Lee, saying, “It doesn’t get any better than being here I guess. The hospital's support team, my wife, my dad’s here, my mother-in-law’s here helping out, so that helps. Like I said, I’m doing really well,” Mills said.

As he prepares for his prosthetic limbs, he said, “With all the technology out there and everything they are doing for me, I’m going to be able to drive, walk, I can still talk, and I still have my money-maker … I didn’t get hit in the face [laughs].”

Of his teammates in Afghanistan, Mills said, “I miss them. I wish I was there. I wish I didn’t have a case of the Mondays on April 10th, you know, and had a bad day at work, but every now and then people have bad days at work and my bad day at work had me come back to the states.

Mills explained to Jenna Lee that the thing that inspires him the most is his eight-month-old and his wife, who he describes as a “champion.”

He added, “My life’s not over. It just got a little more unique.” If Mills doesn’t stay in the military, he plans on being a motivational speaker for other soldiers out there.

“I’m pretty excited for what’s happening for me in the future.”
