2012 National Spelling Bee Champion Snigdha Nandipati Shares Her Story With Fox and Friends
Fourteen-year-old Snigdha Nandipati was crowned as the top speller in the nation on Thursday night at the 2012 National Spelling Bee. The San Diego teen bested 278 students who participated in this year’s contest.
Snigdha Nandipati joined Fox and Friends this morning to discuss her big win. Although she won the spelling bee, she admitted that she wasn’t aware she won until the confetti came falling down on her. “I wasn’t sure. I was expecting them to stand up or something and say ‘You’re the champion!’ [Laughs].”
She added, “I was confused of whether if I had to spell another word or not.”
Leading up to the spelling bee, Nandipati practiced with her dad on a database that he created and said she studied each word six to 10 hours a day during the week and on the weekends she would study each word 10-12 hours a day.
