New Landowner Forces 94-Year-Old Vet to Pull Plug on Hillside Memorial Cross
After a World War II veteran built and maintained a cross made of stones on a California hillside nearly three decades ago to honor his fallen brothers, a new property owner is forcing the memorial to fade back into the landscape. Ninety-four-year-old Arvo Kannisto told Fox News that he believes this cross is a love symbol, saying, “There’s too much hate in the world.”
The retired war veteran was told by the owner of the property that he is forbidden to go up to the hillside where the cross lies and said that he’s concerned about liability if something should happen to him or his companions while they are up on the hillside.
Kannisto said, “Perhaps that’s the reason why I’m 94-years-old because for over 31 years I’ve been climbing the mountain and replacing stones.” Kannisto emotionally said that he can’t talk about this story without breaking down.
