MUST-SEE VIDEO: Track Star Helps Struggling Rival Cross the Finish Line; The Two Share Their Story
After one track runner, Meghan Vogel, saw her competitor, Arden McMath, fall in the last 50 meters of a high school track race rather than running past to beat her, she stopped to help her cross the finish line. This morning on Fox and Friends, Vogel and McMath talked about this amazing display of sportsmanship. Meghan Vogel actually ran her personal best in a race before the one with McMath, but said she was in last place during her race with McMath, so that’s how she saw her fall to the ground. After seeing McMath go down, Vogel said, “I kind of tried to speed up
, just so I could help her to the finish line.” McMath said her body just gave out, describing that her legs were cramping up and that she wasn’t going to be able to go much farther. “I fell, I think twice, and [Vogel] helped me the third time,” McMath said. Although Vogel was the one that dragged them to the finish line, she pushed McMath to finish before her, explaining, “She was in front of me the whole race, so she deserved to finish in front of me no matter what it took.” McMath told Steve Doocy she was amazed when Vogel picked her up because she didn’t expect that at all. She continued, “Most people would’ve just run by, but she definitely stepped it up and she helped me out … it was really nice of her.” Vogel said, “I think everyone should do that for somebody.”
