America, the Entitlement Nation? VP Joe Biden Sparks Controversy Over Comments Regarding His Wife and First Lady Michelle Obama
Vice President Joe Biden's recent comments concerning his wife Jill and First Lady Michelle Obama sparked additional controversy over the role of government in people’s lives. Biden said in part, “These very accomplished women would not have any chance without some help.” This prompted a debate over whether America is an entitlement nation.
This morning on Forbes and Fox, Victoria Barret weighed in saying, “I think what Biden is absolutely missing is history, and the fact that this is a different America than his parent’s America … You know 50 years ago, 80 percent of Americans
paid income tax. Now it’s 40 percent.”
Contributor Morgan Brennan argued that the United States is not yet an “entitlement nation.” She reasoned, “We’re coming out of a horrible economic downturn and we’ve had record high poverty rates which is part of the reason we are seeing more spending where social issues are concerned from the government.”
The new Congressional Budget Office report shows that Medicare will double over the next 25 years and if that does happen Brennan says “we will become an entitlement nation.”
