Auburn University Shooting: 3 People Confirmed Dead, 3 Injured

At least three people have died and three people are injured after a shooting took place at an off-campus apartment complex near Auburn University. Christy Hutchings reported that at least one of the victims is an Auburn football player. She said that a witness who was at the party where the shooting took place said there were a number of football players in attendance. Allegedly, they were hanging out by the pool, when two people started arguing over a female and then shots were fired.

The Police Chief has confirmed that multiple people were shot but it will be a few more hours before they will talk to the press. No one is being allowed in or out of the apartment complex.

Update, 1:59p ET: Auburn University President Jay Gogue releases a statement

on the shootings:
"We’re deeply saddened about last night’s tragic events that impacted the Auburn community and the Auburn family. Our heart-felt condolences go out to the victims and their families. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. We’re in constant contact with area authorities and will continue to assist in any way possible. Our attention is now focused on providing care and support to those touched by this tragedy.”

Update, 4:34p ET: Elizabeth Prann reports the latest on the shooting. Police are now on a manhunt for murder suspect Desmonte Leonard. He has been charged with capital murder in the deaths of former Auburn University football players Edward Christian and Ladarious Phillips.
