Iran’s Warning to the World: “Accept Our Demands”
Nuclear talks will begin later this month in Moscow, but Iran is already resisting diplomacy with its message that the world needs to “accept our demands.” Former ambassador to the United Nations and Fox News contributor, John Bolton, weighed in on America’s News HQ about what this means.
He told Eric Shawn, “Well, implicitly what the Iranian government wants is for release from the sanctions or more importantly acceptance that Iran is a legitimate nuclear state. They would say it’s for peaceful purposes -- obviously the rest of the world thinks it’s for weapons purposes.”
Bolton said Iran believes “they’ve got the West on the run” and that these latest statements are a “reflection of that confidence.”
Shawn asked, “If the West is indeed on the run, what does that mean for the Iranian nuclear program? Bolton said it will put Iran on track
to continue building up their stock of low enriched uranium, which he noted puts them “very close” to being able make nuclear weapons. He added, “It shows that their successful resistance politically and economically has put them at a very advantageous position.”
Bolton continued, “When you wrap all this together with the support they're giving to the Assad regime in Syria along with Russia, another Assad ally, I think it shows that despite pressure from the West that Iran continues to not only survive but to prosper, unfortunately.”
Regarding the talks in Moscow, Bolton said Iran could very well make a meaningless concession that the White House and the West will hail as an act of diplomacy, thus buying Iran more time to make progress on their nuclear program.
