911 Audio: Man Mauled By Bear Escapes By Climbing Up a Tree
An Alaskan hiker was able to climb 30 feet up a tree and call 911 after being mauled by a brown bear. In the 911 audio, the hiker can be heard saying, “I’m bleeding bad … I can hear the brown bear. It’s still huffing in the trees. I was able to climb a tree, so I’m as high up in a tree as I can get … The damn thing was batting at me.”

It took rescuers two hours to reach the hiker in the Alaskan wilderness. He’s now out of the hospital and says he’s grateful that he had his cell phone handy.
