NYC Board of Health Members Suggest Bans on Popcorn and Milk Drinks
At the top of the "Political Grapevine" tonight, popcorn is facing scrutiny by officials in New York City who want to ban the movie snack favorite in an attempt to crack down on obesity. This comes after Mayor Michael Bloomberg proposed a ban on large sugary drinks. Another member of the New York City Board of Health suggested a ban on milk drinks, like milkshakes and milk-coffee beverages. The president of the National Association of Theatre Owners said the popcorn-movie ban
won’t fight obesity because movie-goers only buy concessions on average, twice a year.
