Syrian Fighting Continues as President Assad Forms New Government
Greg Palkot streamed live from Damascus, Syria where he reported that United Nation observers are still on lockdown after one week as the violence continues. In the northern city of Aleppo, anti-government protestors were fired upon by authorities, while rebels hit an oil facility in the eastern part of Syria.
Activists say the death toll has reached over 14,000 with 4,000 of that number including Syrian soldiers. Palkot recounted a mass funeral
at a hospital for 40 soldiers in one day, and he was told that this is a daily occurrence both in the capital of Damascus and around the country.
President Bashir al-Assad is said to be forming a new government in Syria by adding two mainstream opponents into a cabinet, while the loyalists remain in charge of key positions therefore not changing much in terms of power. In regards to the Turkish military jet that was shot down by Syrian air defenses, Turkey’s president said today there would be some kind of retaliation once all the facts become clear.
