Cape Cod Kayaker Details Close Encounter With Great White Shark
Walter Szulc Jr. got the surprise of his life when lifeguards and swimmers at a Cape Cod beach started yelling for the kayaker to return to shore. That’s when Szulc noticed that he was being trailed by a 12 to 14 foot great white shark.
He detailed the close encounter on Happening Now Monday morning.

“To be honest with you, I was obviously very nervous, but all I could think was turn around and paddle. So, that’s what I did. I wanted to make it to shore and get out of his territory,” Szulc said.
He described the shark, saying that he could see a dark figure beneath him. The shark’s head wasn’t visible, so Szulc assumes that it was directly underneath him.
Remarkably, this was Szulc’s first time kayaking. Thankfully, he had spent enough time in the water getting the hang of it prior to encountering the great white.
He said he’s open to the idea of kayaking again, but would probably do it in Maine where there are fewer sharks!
