What Can You Do If Your Internet Service Has Been Shut Down?
Thousands of Americans may not be able to get online this morning because of a computer virus affecting more than half a million PCs. Rick Leventhal reported on what some are calling an Internet doomsday.
Leventhal explained that if you are without Internet, it’s likely because you inadvertently downloaded a virus called a DNS changer which redirected some four million computer users to rogue websites that stole personal information, including credit card numbers.
Last fall, the FBI discovered this hacking ring and stepped in, creating servers that quarantined sick computers so that others wouldn’t be infected. The FBI shut down these servers this morning, causing at least half a million people to lose their internet service today.
Leventhal reports that if you don’t have Internet, you should call your Internet service provider’s customer service department.
