Staff Sgt. Jesse Childress Remembered By Friend Who Tried to Revive Him After Movie Theater Shooting
Tech Sgt. Moni Gravelly of the U.S. Air Foce was at the movie theater the night of the shooting. Her friend and colleague Staff Sgt. Jesse Childress was killed from the gunfire. John Scott talked to Tech Sgt. Gravelly who spoke of his kindness, “As a sergeant he was a very hard worker. There was never a job he left undone. He was very patient, he showed me everything, answered every single question I had when I got here since I was the new person ... and he did that all while still getting his job done.”
Tech Sgt. Gravelly went to the movies that night
with Staff Sgt. Childress, their supervisor and his wife. She recounted that they hit the floor when they saw the canister flying from the exit door, and said “We didn’t know that Sgt. Childress was hit until it was over and the lights came on.” He was lying really still she remembered, and said they tried to revive him but it wasn’t confirmed that Sgt. Childress had died until late that evening because the family had to be notified first. “We had hopes that he was simply okay but...”
