International Olympic Committee Defends China's Ye Shiwen Amid Doping Claims

Fox News Channel is closely following the growing controversy over an Olympic gold medal winner and the ugly dispute between the Chinese, the US swim coach and now the International Olympic Committee.

China's Ye Shiwen, 16-years-old, not only shattered her own record, but she also beat the lap time of the men’s gold medal winner.

Trace Gallagher broke it down for us:

• She beat her personal best by five seconds.
• She broke the world record for men and women by one second.
• This is the first time in Olympic history that a female has swam a lap faster than a gold medalist.

Her Australian coaches have defended her saying that this win is all because she trained incredibly hard for the Olympics. The executive director of the US coaches, John Leonard, called the win, “Impossible.”

He went on to say, “The one thing I will say is that history in our sport will tell you that every time we see something … ‘unbelievable,’ history shows us that it turns out later on there was doping involved.” Leonard even suggested that China was using genetic manipulation.

Shiwen shared reaction, “The Chinese team has always had a firm policy about anti-doping. My results come from hard work and training and I would never use any banned drugs. The Chinese people have clean hands.”

Gallagher showed us what has happened in the past with doping when it comes to the Chinese team:

• 1994 -- Seven tested positive.
• 1998 -- Four tested positive.
• 2009 -- Five junior swimmers were banned for testing positive.

So far, Shiwen appears clean and the IOC defended her saying they have no reason test her in this case, but they will applaud her.
