Parents of Deceased Florida HS Football Players Plan Lawsuit, Citing Negligence
Parents of two South Florida high school football players who died after practicing in high heat say they plan to sue the Broward County School Board and related officials for negligence.
One of the deceased 16-year-olds allegedly told coaches at Fitzgerald High School that he couldn't keep going after he collapsed to the ground; coaches reportedly told him to continue with practice, however, and he later died of heat exhaustion.
A second teen, a Miramar High
School lineman, was found by the medical examiner to have died of cardiac arrest last July, the morning after conditioning drills. Over-exertion, over-heating and a sickle cell issue caused it, the expert says.
