Supporters Show Their Appreciation for Chick-fil-A After CEO’s Comments on Gay Marriage Spark Backlash

There's a strong show of support today for Chick-fil-A, the fast-food chain that’s come under fire after the CEO spoke out publicly against gay marriage. Today, supporters are urging people to eat more chicken, dubbing it as "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day."

John Roberts reports that across the country, large numbers of people are expected to come out in support of Chick-fil-A because half a million people signed up on Facebook, pledging their support.

For many people this is a First Amendment issue and they believe that the CEO of Chick-fil-A, Dan Cathy, should not have been criticized for simply expressing his views about marriage.

Roberts said that other people he spoke to said that they shared Cathy's view of traditional marriage. One person said, “I believe what the Bible says, so, I just came out here to support Chick-fil-A and the movement.”

A number of prominent groups have also spoken out in support of Chick-fil-A.

Reverend William Owens, from the Coalition of African American Pastors, weighed in, saying, “Some people are saying because the position that Chick-fil-A is taking, they don’t want them in their cities. It’s a disgrace.”
