Former Obama Classmate Challenges the President to Release His College Records
The 2012 campaign season is getting heated as the candidates themselves are throwing punches with terms like “Obamaloney” and “Romney Hood.”
Even more so, it’s others who are stirring up controversy by making statements or accusations about Mitt Romney and President Obama. Harry Reid recently laid the claim that Romney hasn’t paid taxes in the past 10 years. Tonight on Hannity, a former Obama classmate called for the Romney team to demand the president unseal his college transcripts. Wayne Allyn Root was President Obama’s classmate at Columbia University, Class of 1983. They graduated the same year and shared the same major but Root claims he and his classmates do not recall knowing Barack Obama during those years.
Root was the former Libertarian vice presidential candidate, running on the ticket against Obama in 2008. He told Sean Hannity
that he isn’t insinuating that the president never attended Columbia, but insisted that he may have been too busy engaging in other activities. Romney is currently under fire from the Obama team to release his tax returns. Root says that if he were Romney, he would flip it around and ask, “Why are Obama’s records sealed in college, almost his entire life sealed, protected, lawyers, millions of dollars spent to keep them under lock at key.”
He said that as an oddsmaker in Las Vegas, it’s his gut belief that when he put the pieces together he “felt queasy about this for four years.” Hannity pressed Root to say what it is that he believes will be discovered if the records are released. Root charged that if Obama was a terrible student, how could he have gotten into Ivy League schools? He said, “My gut instinct says there’s an easy track … you don’t have to do that if you’re a foreign exchange student. They’re looking for diversity.” Hannity weighed in, saying, “So in the spirit of Harry Reid, you’re saying to Obama what Reid is saying to Romney. Prove you wrong. Is that what you’re saying?” Root answered, “Something doesn’t smell right at Columbia, if it’s just grades, why not unseal your records Mr. Obama. But if it’s something else, shouldn't the American people have a right to see that.”
