USDA Spends $2M in Taxpayer Money on Internship Program and Hires Only One Intern
The USDA spent two million dollars worth of taxpayer money on an internship program that hired only one fulltime intern!
Tom Schatz, president of Citizens Against Government Waste, investigated the program. On Fox and Friends this morning, he said, “This is part of a $63 million increase over two years to enhance information technology security at the Department of Agriculture, a fairly important task. The department got the money, they started 16 projects at once. They didn’t prioritize.”
While the money was spent on the program even though only one intern was hired, Schatz said no one was punished for such waste. “No one gets fired over this. This is the problem with how the whole government is run. There’s nobody at the top managing how this whole process works,” he said.
