Romney Campaign Reveals How It Kept Ryan VP Pick a Secret
Congressman Paul Ryan is revealing for the first time the great lengths he went to to keep it a secret that Romney had picked him to be his running mate. He describes the stealth moves he and Romney used to outwit reporters in order to keep the announcement a surprise.
Although many reporters were camped out at each possible VP pick's house, Phil Keating tells us, “On Friday, reporters at Ryan’s home saw him arrive and he said, ‘Oh, I don’t have my keys,’ that’s when a reporter saw Ryan go into the backyard of his house, allegedly, to get into his house that way.”

When Ryan got to the backyard, he walked through the woods and got into an awaiting van, and by Saturday he was in Norfolk, Virginia with Mitt Romney.
Paul discussed escape, saying, “I grew up in those woods. The house I grew up in backs up to the house I have now, so, I know those woods like the back of my hand, so, it wasn’t too hard to walk through.”
