All Clear Given to American Airlines Flight With 'Potentially Major Problems' That Landed at Miami Airport
The Miami-Dade Fire Rescue team was on standby at the Miami International Airport as they awaited an inbound flight, originating in San Juan, Puerto Rico on Tuesday morning. The crew aboard the American Airlines 757 Flight 1549 reported an 'alert II,' which indicates, according to the FAA website, "an aircraft approaching the airport is in major difficulty; e.g., engine on fire, faulty landing gear, no hydraulic pressure, etc."
An American Airlines representative gave a statement, saying the flight intended to land in Dallas/Ft. Worth, was given an all clear after the pilot noticed a light had come on saying there was a mechanical issue. The flight landed safely at 11:22a ET, and is expected to head to Texas shortly. There are 189 people aboard the flight.
