Ecuador Grants Julian Assange Asylum
Officials in Ecuador just announced that they are granting asylum to WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, who has been holed up in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London for the last two months. Assange is desperately trying to avoid extradition to Sweden where he is wanted on sexual misconduct charges. There’s also a chance that he could be turned over to the United States for releasing thousands of classified government documents. The Ecuadorian government says it made its decision partially because it fears Assange wouldn’t have a fair trial here.
