Former Marine Challenges Stephen Colbert and Other Critics of 'Stars Earn Stripes' to Debate
In an attempt to bring military combat to reality TV, NBC’s new show, ‘Stars Earn Stripes,’ pairs up members of the U.S. military with celebrities like Nick Lachey and Laila Ali. Former U.S. Marine sergeant and Iraq war veteran Andrew McLaren joined Fox and Friends to dish about the show and dared to go up against our own David Briggs in a push up contest.
McLaren responded to some of the negative criticism the show has received, saying, “At first I thought that maybe they were just anti-war, but then looking more into it, it seems they’re more anti-military. They’re saying this is being used as a recruitment tool by the U.S. military by making war look fun. That’s not at all what we’re doing. What we’re doing is raising money for charity and we’re bringing more awareness about what’s going on and putting a face on veterans.”
He went on to challenge those who have criticized the show, including Stephen Colbert
and Desmond Tutu, to match the hundreds of thousands of dollars raised for the military and law enforcement. McLaren also called for the chance to debate them so he could dispute their claims.
