Tropical Storm Isaac Expected to Hit Tampa Area During Republican National Convention
Forget the protesters or the traffic, instead there’s a new growing concern about the Republican National Convention being hit by a hurricane.
Tropical storm Isaac is gaining steam in the Caribbean and is expected to make landfall in a timely manner in Florida by Monday. RNC organizers say that they are not going to take any chances on this storm. Ken Jones, from the Tampa Bay Host Committee, said, “If there’s a weather incident, health and safety come first. Then the RNC will work on their legal process on how we get our candidate nominated to be [...] President of the United States.”
Meteorologist Maria Molina reports that we are expecting it to make landfall as early as 2p today across parts of the Northern Leeward Islands. She said that since the water is so warm they are expecting the storm to continue to intensify, and it could quickly become a Category 1 hurricane.
Although there is some uncertainty over how the tropical storm, Molina said the National Hurricane Center is calling for landfall across south Florida as early as Monday morning as a category one hurricane with maximum sustained winds at 90 mph.
