President Obama to Gulf Residents: "Now's Not the Time to Tempt Fate"
President Obama delivered a statement from the White House on Tropical Storm Isaac. He urged residents
of the Gulf Coast to heed evacuation orders and other warnings from local officials.
"Now's not the time to tempt fate. Now's not the time to dismiss official warnings. You need to take this seriously," Obama said.
Isaac is expected to reach hurricane strength at some point today before making landfall tonight or tomorrow morning.
Hurricane warnings are in effect from Morgan City, La. to the Alabama-Florida line. President Obama has already declared a state of emergency for Louisiana.
Isaac is expected to dump more than a foot of rain on some parts of the Gulf Coast, exactly seven years after Hurricane Katrina.
