‘Get Over It! We’re Not All Created Equal’ – Controversial Editorial Written By Female Marine Argues Women Are Not Fit for Combat
A controversial editorial written by a female Marine captain argues that women are not fit for infantry. In the piece titled, “Get Over It! We’re Not All Created Equal,” Captain Katie Petronio claims that putting women on the front lines could possibly impact national security. Capt. Pertronio speaks from a firsthand perspective, having served two tours in combat.
Fox News correspondent Jennifer Griffin reported that Capt. Pertronio squats 200 pounds and benches 145 pounds, in addition to ranking fourth out of 52 candidates in officer candidate school. Capt. Pertronio said five years ago when she finished Basic School, she would’ve fully supported female integration into the infantry.
It was after two combat deployments that her perspective completely changed. She recalled, “I found that I broke
down and had muscle atrophy and weight loss at a much faster … and noticeable rate than my male Marines.”
Capt. Pertronio believes women should be in combat as they already are, serving on the front lines, but she also wants an open non-political debate about where they can serve without failing.
