Talking Points: President Obama's Disdain for American Tradition Shown at the DNC

Kicking off the 17th season of The O’Reilly Factor, Bill O’Reilly broke down the Republican and Democratic National Conventions. During tonight’s Talking Points Memo, the Factor host criticized the RNC for taking four days to get out its rather simple message: “The president has failed to improve the economy and has no clue on what to do next, but Mitt Romney does and can improve things.”

O'Reilly observed that things get a bit more complicated on the Democratic side because of party division. Traditionalists support President Obama, but seem uneasy with the radical turn the party is taking. During primetime coverage of the DNC, speakers included Cecile Richards, the head of Planned Parenthood, who wants abortion without limits, using taxpayer funding.

To drive home the issue, Sandra Fluke was given a high profile spot to put forth her vision of the country right now as, “An America in which access to birth control is controlled by people who will never use it.”

O’Reilly says Fluke came across as smug and immature. He quoted Dennis Miller’s

line, “The Democrats are for cradle-to-grave entitlements ... it’s getting to the cradle that’s the hard part.”

Caroline Kennedy caused controversy with her DNC speech when she said, “As a Catholic woman, I take reproductive health seriously, and today it is under attack. This year alone, more than a dozen states have passed more than 40 restrictions on women’s access to reproductive health care. That’s not the kind of future I want for my daughters or your daughters. Now isn’t the time to roll back the rights we were winning when my father was president.”

For the record, O’Reilly pointed out that Kennedy’s parents were not pro-choice, at least not publicly. While President Kennedy did not embarrass the Catholic Church, O’Reilly said, the embarrassment this year came when Democrats took God out of their platform. The attempt to put God back in the platform … well let’s just say, God was booed.

O’Reilly doesn’t believe there is a war on women, blacks, Latinos or anyone else, and he simply cannot figure out why President Obama has handed over his party to extremists. “If the president thinks Planned Parenthood and Sandra Fluke are going to get him elected, he is making a major mistake. Most Americans aren’t ideologues; they just want to give themselves and their families a decent life. Mr. Obama is misreading the country’s mood […] The more he embraces the radical left, the more he shows disdain for American tradition – and that includes capitalism – the more likely it is that he will lose.”
