New Report Claims That the Justice Department Worked With Left-Wing Group Media Matters to Spin Bad Press
There are new reports that Justice Department employees turned to left-wing group Media Matters in order to help spin the bad press that’s been plaguing both Attorney General Eric Holder and the Department of Justice. The report, by conservative website The Daily Caller, reveals internal Justice Department emails which show staffers helping Media Matters target news outlets that were reporting on DOJ scandals, including Operation 'Fast and Furious.'
Judge Andrew Napolitano commented on the implications of the DOJ working with Media Matters to try to spin the news cycle.
He said, “Media Matters is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization, meaning if people contribute to it, the money that they contribute is not taxable by the IRS and that limits what Media Matters can do. For example, it cannot advocate for legislation and it cannot support publically the candidacy of anyone running for office.”
He continued, “If Media Matters and the Justice Department’s collaboration was intended to help the president, and make him look good, that is really towing the line.”
