College Professor on Leave After Asking Students to Pledge to Vote for President Obama
A Florida college professor is currently on leave and under investigation after she reportedly told her students to vote for President Obama and Democratic candidates “up and down the ticket,” possibly violating the school’s harassment policy and state law.
Trace Gallagher reports that 58-year-old Sharon Sweet, who has been teaching at Brevard Community College for about five years, is accused of asking her students to sign a pledge saying that they’d vote for President Obama. She allegedly handed out a bookmark to students in her algebra class which read, “I pledge to vote for President Obama and Democrats up and down the ticket.”
The school has reacted, saying that according to their policies, “No College employee shall solicit support for a political candidate during regular College work hours or on College property.”
