New Book Estimates $1.4 Billion in Taxpayer Money Spent on President and First Family Last Year
In his new book, “Presidential Perks Gone Royal,” Robert Keith Gray estimates that $1.4 billion in taxpayer money was spent on President Obama and the First Family last year.
For instance, according to Gray, Bo the dog
has a personal handler who is paid more than $100,000 per year!
Though the royal treatment has gone on for a long time, Gray said President Obama has used Air Force One "capriciously." Though he is required to reimburse travel costs for campaign appearances, Gray points out that the president can often plan trips for dual purposes.
"(The reimbursement) is minuscule compared to the total cost, and the truth is that the president - if he wishes, and this one seems to wish it a lot - can find some reason to be almost anyplace in the country at any time," he said.
