$15 Million Highway Project Gets Stuck in Web of Rare Spider
The unexpected discovery of a rare spider is forcing Texas officials to put a $15 million highway project on hold indefinitely.
This type of spider hadn't been
seen in 30 years and scientists thought it might be extinct. But the Bracken Bat Cave Meshweaver turned up along a highway where crews were getting set to build a much-needed overpass. The dime-sized, non-venomous arachnid, which is classified as endangered, lives underground.

When surveying the area, a biologist found just one of these spiders in an underground cave, and sent it for testing. Now, the project is on hold.
Some residents, however, are bugging out over the delay because the new overpass was supposed to relieve traffic in a heavily congested area.
