Naval Destroyer Commissioned Today Named for Fallen Navy SEAL Michael Murphy
Sailors boarded a newly commissioned naval destroyer today, named for fallen Navy SEAL Michael Murphy. At 29-years-old, Murphy died after he was caught in an ambush in Afghanistan and bravely sacrificed himself to save the lives of others. The Long Island native was the first American awarded the Medal of Honor during the Afghanistan war.
His mother, Maureen said, “There’s a whole in your heart that just never heals. There’s part of you that’s missing. Even though I know spiritually he’s here, I physically miss my Mike.”
The only Navy SEAL to survive that deadly day in June 2005 has written a book called ‘Lone Survivor.’
