Pakistani Girl Shot By Taliban Receiving Medical Treatment in the U.K.
The 14-year-old girl from Pakistan who was brutally attacked by the Taliban has airlifted to a hospital in Great Britain for medical care and her own protection. Militant gunman stormed Malala Yousufzaiq’s school bus on October 9th and shot her in the head and neck in retaliation for her support of education for girls.
She had been blogging about life in northwestern Pakistan where women are still treated as second-class citizens. The Taliban claims she was guilty of pushing Western thinking. The attack has horrified not only Pakistanis but Muslims across the world. People in Pakistan have gathered by the thousands to show support for the badly wounded girl.
Jonathan Hunt reports that doctors in Pakistan removed a bullet from her head. She has a long road to recovery, but doctors in the U.K. are hopeful. There has yet to be a strong condemnation by the Pakistani government against what the Taliban has done to this teenage girl who bravely stood up for her rights.
