Kelly's Court: Judge Rules Texas High School Cheerleaders Can Display Bible Verses at Football Games
An East Texas school district had prohibited a high school cheerleading squad from displaying large signs with Bible verses during football games. The ban came after an atheist who attended a game in the small town of Kountze complained that the sign was akin to the public school promoting Christianity, which would violate a Supreme Court ruling.
The cheerleaders
filed a lawsuit and today a Texas judge agreed with their arguments that the ban could violate free speech. The judge gave them a temporary injunction against the ban - so they can display the signs again - until the lawsuit is concluded. The case is scheduled for trial next June.
On Kelly's Court this afternoon, defense attorney Mark Eiglarsh and Fox News legal analyst Mercedes Colwin had a spirited debate about the case.
