Emotional Interview: Rep. Bob Turner Describes Losing Home in Massive Breezy Point Fire
More than 80 homes in Breezy Point, New York were destroyed in a massive wind-fueled fire during Hurricane Sandy. One of those homes belonged to Rep. Bob Turner, who joined Bill Hemmer on this morning’s America’s Newsroom.
In the emotional conversation, Turner described that the fire, which ignited during the height of the storm on Monday night, went unchecked for two hours because emergency personnel were unable to get to the area. “As soon as the water receded, the volunteers and Fire Department were on the case heroically working in those incredible conditions with water, and high winds, and flames.”
Turner spoke of the enormous damage and how he, his family, and his neighbors are coping, “My wife and I are blessed with friends, family and resources that we can handle this. Some others are not as fortunate.”
