David Axelrod Defends President Obama Over White House Reaction to Libya

With just 48 hours left until Election Day, senior Obama campaign strategist David Axelrod appeared on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace. In the remaining days before the election, Mitt Romney is concentrating on Pennsylvania even though polls have him down by four points. Axelrod previously bet his mustache that the president will carry that state. He said today, “Next time we see each other, Chris, I guarantee you that mustache will be right where it is today, and it’s been for 40 years by the way so you know how serious a bet that was.”

Turning to the topic of Libya, Wallace asked him if President Obama made a calculated decision to run out the clock until the election and not answer questions about the Benghazi attack.

Axelrod reiterated that the president wants to get to the bottom of what happened and will share what they discover with the American people. He maintained that the president is “100 percent committed to the people he sends overseas, personally, to represent this country. He’s the one who met those coffins when they came home. So any suggestion that he would not take the necessary steps to protect them […] is just nonsense.”

Last night on Fox News, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) accused the administration of trying to cover up the events in Libya to protect the president's campaign narrative of Al Qaeda being on the run. Watch the interview, here.
