McCain Calls For Special Committee to Investigate Benghazi: 'Al Qaeda Is Not On the Run ... They Are Far Stronger Than They Were in 2008'

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) is among three senators calling for a special committee to be set up to investigate the September 11th terror attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, and the events leading up to the assault.

A classified cable, as reported this week by Fox News, warned of the lack of security around Benghazi and pointed to the deadly risks posed by an attack on the U.S. Consulate. It also warned about terror training camps in the area.

McCain spoke by phone last night with Jeanine Pirro on Justice With Judge Jeanine.

"This is a cover-up, Judge. Let's call it what it is," said the 2008 presidential candidate, who argued that the Obama administration sought to mislead the American people about the nature of the attack so that it would not affect the president's re-election hopes.

"The President of the United States wanted to say that Usama bin Laden is gone and Al Qaeda is on the run. Al Qaeda is not on the run. They are all over Iraq, they are pouring in to Syria, they've taken over northern Mali. I'm telling you, it is because of the weak and feckless leadership by this president that Al Qaeda is not only not on the run or decimated, they are far, far stronger than they were four years ago," he said.

McCain also wondered why the mainstream media has not given in-depth coverage to the attack that killed four Americans.
