What Could Approaching Nor'easter Mean for Devastated New York, New Jersey?
Just one week since parts of the Northeast began picking up the pieces after Hurricane Sandy left a trail of devastation along the coast, the region braces for another powerful storm -- this time, a nor'easter that's being called Athena.
The new storm is set to bring wind gusts of up to 60 mph and over six inches of snow and in some places by this evening, all of which could mean new power outages in some of hardest hit areas.
There will also be sub-freezing temperatures
overnight, including a mix of rain, snow and sleet, which will make for a messy commute home. Some storm snow totals show that we could see around 7" of snow in parts of New Jersey, but Janice Dean cautions that snow is one of the hardest things to forecast.
Long Beach, Long Island is expected to be among hardest hit areas from this latest storm. Fox News correspondent Anna Kooiman was live from the city, which she described as an 'absolute wreck.' The city is already largely without power.
One distraught resident described her emotions as she tries to prepare physically and mentally for another sotrm. "I think there isn't more fear ... I get anxiety walking around seeing what I'm gonna do. And other people too," said Donna Maccio, in tears, "I feel bad for other people. This is crazy, you know? I don't know what to do anymore. I don't want to live in Long Beach."
Police are going to low-lying areas asking people to reach for higher grounds, urging some to evacuate although many are apparently clinging to their belongings due to fears of looters.
