WATCH: House Speaker John Boehner's Briefing to Reporters on Capitol Hill
House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) addressed the media on Capitol Hill this morning, specifically on the so-called fiscal cliff and the upcoming negotiations that will take place between Democrats and Republicans on a new plan for taxes and spending.
Boehner signaled that raising tax rates, as it is believed President Obama wants to do for upper-income Americans, will be opposed by House Republicans.
"The number one issue in the election was about the economy and jobs. Everyone wants
to get our economy moving again, everyone wants to get more Americans back to work again. Raising tax rates will slow down our ability to create the jobs that everyone says they want," Boehner said.
"Everything has to be looked at," he said, specifically pointing out the explosion of retirees into Social Security and the cost of Medicare.
